Having raised a successful student-athlete, Nancy found her search for resources to be time consuming and inconvenient. She was inspired to write More Than Victories after receiving a letter from her son’s high school football coach. A phrase in the letter became the title of the book.
Nancy K. Samuel is a native of Rome, GA and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. An avid sports fan, she is the recipient of the 1999 Parent Leadership Award presented by Redan High School and the 1999 Local Honoree for the Eckerd Salute to Women. Nancy was highlighted in the July 2000 edition of the National Athletic Trainers Associations (NATA) News, which featured her work to obtain Certified Athletic Trainers to cover sporting events for DeKalb County high school student-athletes. Over a period of four-years, she was able to persuade the DeKalb County Board of Education to pay for the service by using the Position Proposal Guide offered by NATA. Secondary Schools Athletic Trainer Certified (SSATC) Chair Jon Almquist, ATC, said Samuel’s experience is encouraging. “I’m glad to hear something we’ve done is helping,” he said. “That’s really the population we geared this thing for; the motivated, knowledgeable parent.” Her success was told all over the country by NATA. Nancy spent two years as writer, editor, and publisher of The Touchdown Club News; a newsletter devoted to informing parents about Redan High School Football activities. Her activities also include volunteering in her community and church.
